Since Dr. Branemark presented the osseointegration concept with dental implants, implant dentistry has changed and improved dramatically. The use of dental implants has skyrocketed in the past thirty years. As the benefits of therapy became apparent, implant treatment earned a widespread acceptance. The need for dental implants has resulted in a rapid expansion of the market worldwide. To date, general dentists and a variety of specialists offer implants as a solution to partial and complete edentulism. Implant dentistry continues to advance with the development of new surgical and prosthodontic techniques. The purpose of Implant Dentistry - The Most Promising Discipline of Dentistry is to present a contemporary resource for dentists who want to replace missing teeth with dental implants. It is a text that integrates common threads among basic science, clinical experience and future concepts. This book consists of twenty-one chapters divided into four sections.

Written by experts in the fields of oculofacial plastic surgery and neuro-ophthalmology, Evaluation and Management of Blepharoptosis is an up-to-date, practical guide to the treatment of adults and children with ptosis. This comprehensive reference covers all aspects of blepharoptosis in an organized fashion. The book begins with evaluation of the patient to determine if true ptosis or pseudoptosis exists. The various categories of blepharoptosis are thoroughly and succinctly reviewed, along with suggested approaches to clinical management. Detailed descriptions of the various surgical techniques are replete with pearls provided by leading ptosis surgeons, along with advice regarding perioperative anesthesia and analgesia. Every surgeon should know how to handle the various surgical complications and surgical failure. Nevertheless, familiarity with surgical techniques is not enough. One must learn to identify risk factors and red flags that suggest a modified or conservative approach, or perhaps that surgery may be unwise. When surgery is unwarranted or unsuccessful, then one may consider nonsurgical therapeutic strategies. Regardless of treatment, the physician-patient relationship and detailed discussion with the patient prior to surgery regarding potential risks, complications, and realistic expectations impact patient satisfaction immeasurably. All of these issues are discussed in detail in this invaluable resource for the clinician.

Bad breath is a common and embarrassing problem. About 20% of adults suffer from bad breath on a day-to-day basis, and millions more worry about having it. In some cases, telltale breath odors can provide important clues regarding specific diseases. Yet, despite the prevalence and significance of bad breath, most health professionals still know little about its origins, diagnosis, and treatment. The past fifteen years have witnessed rapid development in research into bad breath. Investigators have studied how bad breath is caused, where the odors originate, and which bacteria and gases are involved. Predisposing dental and medical risk factors have been identified. Novel in vitro systems and measurement techniques have been proposed, and clinical studies conducted to compare new and traditional treatments. This illustrated text presents, for the first time, a comprehensive and cohesive science-based approach to bad breath, combining basic research with clinical approaches to diagnosis and treatment. All aspects of the subject are examined thoroughly and critically, including the psychological impact of breath odor and future prospects. The authors draw upon more than thirty years’ combined experience in the field, both in the laboratory and as consultants to thousands of patients in Canada, the US, the UK, and elsewhere.
